Irish Political Parties and its Political Positions on EU

The thesis entitled Irish political parties and the evolution of their positions towards the EU deals with an overlooked issue in our context, which is related to the attitude of political parties in Ireland and their relationship with the EU, and the author has defined the period of her analysis as 2002-2020. The first part of the thesis introduces the theoretical concept of Euroscepticism through the most influential theoretical contributions of authors such as Paul Taggart, Aleks Szczerbiak, Petr Kopecký, Cas Mudde, and Soren Rishoj. Also, it discusses the degree of Europeanisation of the Irish political system or political parties themselves. The next part of the thesis then discusses the formation of the Irish political and party system, referred to as the so-called two-and-a-half party system with two dominant political parties, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael, and analyses the other political actors. The thesis is a longitudinal analysis building on data collected from the Comparative Manifesto Project, Chapel Hill Expert Survey. The author has supplemented this data with her 2020 election dataset and presents it in detail in the methodology section. The Transformation of the British Labour Party in years 1994-1997

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find the cause of success of the British Labour Party in general election in 1997. In addition to examining the assumptions for this victory the work also focuses on the search for the roots and the beginning of an ideological transformation "old" Labour Party into "new" called New Labour under Tony Blair in years 1994-1997. This paper applies case study metodology. In conclusion identifies the key moments of transformation and raises the question whether and to what extent this success can be generalized and applied to other social democratic parties.

Labour Party in Scotland and Wales - comparative analysis

The thesis presents a comparative analysis of the Scottish and Welsh Labour Party's position. The work is focuses on the change of regional party's branches after devolution, which the Labour Party introduced in 1999. At the decentralized level was created a new devolved institution, a new party system and a new electoral system, which has brought the possibility of coalition government. These changes were meant a big challenge for the party. The party must adapt to new conditions and change access to regional affiliates. The changes are analyzed according to the theoretical framework created by J. Hopkin and supplemented by the theory of Laffin, Shaw and Taylor. Areas of party activities are being explored, such as election of candidates, electoral and governmental strategies, election leaders, organization and party financing, and party status in a party system based on elections to the Westminster and Regional Parliament or National Assembly. The thesis briefly describes history of the Labour Party and its organization, which is necessary for analysis after devolutional position of the party. There is briefly described the devolution itself in the British environment and the emergence and system of newly established legislative institutions, including the electoral system.

Political Parties in Great Britain with the Focus on Liberal Democrats

The diploma thesis deals with the analysis of British party system and its special features, with the focus on the main political parties in Great Britain, their history, their development and the current position within the system. The thesis employs methods of analysis of specialized sources in the English language mainly. The aim of the first part is to provide theoretical knowledge to establish background for better understanding the rest of the thesis. The following part of the thesis deals with the main political parties in Great Britain, their development, programs and their current position in the system. The most important part of the thesis is the last one, which focuses on Liberal Democratic Party, its beginnings, development and puts emphasis on the two last elections in 2010 and 2015. There is an attempt to provide an opinion on what were the reasons of the election results depending on election program, electorate and other specifications.

Czechoslowak-British Relations 1945-1948 using the Documents of the Czechoslovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs

This diploma thesis examines the Czechoslovak-British relations between 1945 and 1948 primarily by analysing documents found in the Archive of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. The thesis focuses on the politico-diplomatic relations and describes their evolution with regards to events of major importance to both involved countries; such as parliamentary elections, the question of German population transfer, or the attitude of Czechoslovakia and the United Kingdom towards the Marshall Plan. The thesis is divided into six chapters and spans the conception of the Czechoslovak foreign policy, based on cooperation with the East, as well as the West; the evolution of the bilateral relations, which were influenced by, inter alia, parliamentary elections in both countries; and the mutual foreign visits. The post-war period is being examined until February 1948 when the change in political regime resulted in deterioration of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Festival of Britain and Its Reflection in the British Society (1951)

This thesis deals with British internal and external political developments after the Second World War which resulted in organizing the Festival of Britain in 1951. The Festival was aimed to be a distraction for the British public and a remainder of the great history and cultural heritage of the United Kingdom and the British Empire. This thesis is divided into three chapters. The first one deals with the post-war development in the world, its reorganization into the Cold War, and the process of decolonization. The second chapter is focused on domestic political reforms, especially social reforms, of the Labour Party between 1945 and 1951. British Labour Party's Ideological Shift between 2010 and 2015

The goal of this dissertation is to find out how the ideological position of the British Labour party has changed between 2010 and 2015. This is achieved by content analysis of electoral manifestos for the House of Commons elections of 2010 and 2015. The results are achieved via the MARPOR RILE method. The result of this research serves to verify a theory created by Danish authors Martin Bækgaard and Carsten Jensen who claim that in political systems dominated by two large parties, these big parties react to electoral losses by moving the party from the median voter position towards their party base. This paper implies that the Labour Party has moved to the left on the left-right axis between 2010 and 2015 which means it has moved towards its party base. This means the aforementioned theory has been strengthened. Apart from the empirical result, this work also provides an overview of the party's policies in both points in time. These policies are divided into individual thematic categories.

The Analysis of British Parliamentary Debate in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict between 2010 and 2015: The Comparison of Political Parties' Stances towards the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Bachelor thesis The Analysis of British Parliamentary Debate in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict between 2010 and 2015: The Comparison of Political Parties' Stances towards the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict deals with the stances of major British political parties, the Conservative Party, the Labour Party and to lesser extent also the Liberal Democrats, towards the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The thesis at first thoroughly examines through an analysis of parliamentary debates in 2010-2015 the stances of concerned political parties towards three important aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - the issue of recognition of Palestinian state on bilateral level, the issue of enhanced status of Palestine in the United Nations and the issue of some form of economic sanctions against the Israel or against the Jewish settlement in the West Bank. In subsequent comparison main dissimilarities and similarities are identified in stances of concerned political parties. In the end the thesis answers the question, whether the stances of political parties in question towards Israeli- Palestinian conflict falls within the confines of traditional bipartisan consensus in the foreign policy between the Labour Party and the Conservative party or not.

Political Debate about the Issue of Free Movement of People in the United Kingdom between the Years 2010 and 2016

This Bachelor thesis is concerning with the evolution of stances of four main British political parties, namely the Conservative Party, Labour Party, Liberal Democrats, and the United Kingdom Independence Party, towards the issue of free movement of people between the years 2010 and 2016. The thesis aims to analyse on the basis of chosen documents, mainly manifestos or speeches of the parties' leaders, how and why did the stance of each political party towards the freedom of movement changed over the chosen period and how the stances differed among the parties. Mostly two documents are analysed for every chosen milestone of the time period between the years 2010 and 2016. These milestones are general elections in the years 2010 and 2015, the end of the transitional period for Bulgaria and Romania at the turn of the year 2014 and the European Parliament elections in the year 2014. For showing a possible shift in the stances of individual parties towards the issue of free movement of people are their statements characterised on a six-level scale negative to positive, whereas the sixth level means the issue was not mentioned in the statement. Comparison of referendums on devolution in Wales

The bachelor thesis "Comparison of Referendums on Devolution in Wales" deals with the process of political devolution in Great Britain, or rather in Wales with emphasis on two referendums on this question, which took place in 1979 and 1997. The main topic of this work is an establishing of a relationship between central British and regional Welsh government that culminated in the origin of National Assembly for Wales in 1998. In the first referendum Welsh people expressed a negative attitude to devolution and in the second one they changed their mind about it and voted for devolution. The main goal of this work is to explain basic facts that caused the difference between the results of referendums. This comparative work determines criteria and through the analysis of them it gains characteristics of both referendums in which people voted on founding of the National Assembly for Wales. In its major part, the work deals with the comparison of referendums on the basis of their descriptions. The attention is put also on the development of political situation in Wales, which preceded declaration of the first referendum.
